What lies beyond the veil of mortality?
BEYOND THE VEIL
Death humbles us all
its uncertainty drives us to whisper stories
to our trusting children
from us they learn to wait for our “death story” to be fulfilled
for peaceful afterlives in heaven
to ride the next cycle of reincarnation
to be reunited with loved ones
to meet their 72 virgins
to feast in Valhalla
for cosmic oneness
but if we cling to our tales of forever
we miss death’s purpose
we’re merely wrapped in beliefs, in hopes, in wishes
could we, instead, allow mortality’s secret
to be just that - a secret
by letting go of a search for answers
could we embrace death’s mystery
and, instead, focus on living fully
rather than fixating on what follows
pretending to know abates our fear
with stories to shield us from the unthinkable:
that we might simply dissolve into starlight
admitting to not knowing embraces a key truth
that this very finite life we’re living now
is filled with more than enough
wonder, beauty, and love
to fill us with awe
for a century of breath
isn’t that enough?
