Chapter 5 Sample: Twilight Zone & Luna Moth

Something new? Everything was new! But luna moths come to mind. I was about eight years old. I found a huge luna moth cocoon. Greg and I put it in a pickle jar and kept it in our bedroom on top of the dresser and waited.

One night, I’d made the mistake of watching Twilight Zone before we went to bed. It was the episode where the woman was fighting with little space aliens. They kept shooting things at her and she could hear them clicking on her roof. It was terrifying. I wondered if I was too little to be watching. It scared me to death and I was then having trouble falling asleep. Greg and I had bunk beds at the time. I was in the top bunk and was finally laying there sleeping when I was awoken by a click click on our roof. I was beyond terrified and laid there praying for the aliens to just go away.

Sleep eventually overtook me. In the morning when I woke, there was still clicking on the roof! I was scared all over, but in the light of day I was a little braver and decided to investigate. I followed the sound and discovered the hatched luna moth beating its wings against the glass jar. I’ll never forget that TV show and The night of Luna Moth Terror.
