024 - Ten Reasons to Live to Be Seventy-Four

Your Paw and Granny both turn 74 in the next few days. We thought it would be a good time to remind you to take care of yourself because there is so much to look forward to when you reach that fabulous age.

  1. Wisdom & Perspective – You’ve seen it all, learned from life’s ups and downs, and can share insights that only time can bring. Unfortunately, no one cares. They ask ChatGPT.

  2. Freedom to Prioritize What Matters – No more worrying about climbing the career ladder or meeting others' expectations—you get to focus on what you love. Which, let’s be honest, is probably taking a good nap.

  3. Deep & Meaningful Relationships – Friendships and family bonds are richer, filled with shared memories and laughter. You just have to remember who they are and why they’re in your house.

  4. More Time for Creative Pursuits – Whether it’s writing, painting, or fixing up your Model A, you have time to explore passions fully. Or, you know, just looking for someone to help you log on to your computer.

  5. Grandchildren – If you have grandkids, they bring joy, laughter, and a new way to see the world. And they think you’re a magician because you can write in cursive.

  6. Confidence in Who You Are – No more worrying about fitting in or pleasing everyone. You know yourself, and that’s a superpower. Besides, what are they going to do? You’re old.

  7. A Lifetime of Stories – You carry history in your experiences, and people love hearing about the fascinating times you’ve lived through. Even if they pretend to check their phones while you talk.

  8. The Power of Saying “No” (and “Yes”!) – You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to. And you can say yes to all the adventures you still want to take! Unless it involves stairs—then, let’s rethink that.

  9. Appreciation for the Little Things – A good cup of coffee, a peaceful morning, a great book, or a beautiful sunset—life’s simple joys feel richer. Until you forget where you put your coffee, your book, and your glasses.

  10. Inspiration for Others – Whether through your kindness, resilience, humor, or wisdom, you’re an example of a life well-lived. And if all else fails, at least you can still rock a good turtleneck.

Remember: There is always hope for a better future! We love you. - Granny & Paw
