CHARMS | INTRODUCTION

Hi, Miss Presley. Welcome to the spellcasting class known simply as Charms. My name is Professor Anne Argon and I will be your instructor for this class. I am so delighted to participate in this experiment on teaching magic to younger, but mature, students. I am excited about working with you and can’t wait to get started!

HOW CLASS WORKS

In this First Year class, we strive to create a strong base on which to build your magic skills. There are four main parts to every assignment:

  1. Magic Lesson - this is information that will cover things like magical laws, wand lore, etc.

  2. Spell - you will learn the correct movements, pronunciations, and effects of a spell.

  3. Lab Work - you will practice your spell.

  4. Leadership Development - good magic requires good character.

OPTIONAL EXTRA CREDIT

5. Extra Credit - the extra credit assignment will vary from week to week. All the best students do every Extra Credit assignment and usually become the best wizards or witches - but you don’t have to do it. Just if you want to.

COMMUNICATION

If you need to contact me, I can be reached through your portal at The Virtual Owl. Please don’t hesitate to send me any questions or problems.

The Charms class is self-paced. If you have a busy week, don’t worry. You can turn in your homework whenever you like. You will not get the next assignment until the previous assignment is completed and assessed by me.

When you have completed your assignment, send me a message. You can simply write DONE. It would also be nice if you could tell me a little bit about how the assignment went. Was it hard or fun? Boring or exciting?

Your extra credit project will require your to take a photo of your work. You can’t send photos through The Virtual Owl, so we are renting the mail portal at your granny’s house. You can simply text her your photo and we will snatch it magically from her device. We will also be using her mailbox to deliver objects to you, as needed.

MUGGLE HELPER

You will share two Muggle Helpers with your younger sister who is attending Unicorn School.

KALLIE, MUGGLE HELPER

Your granny has agreed to deliver objects to you and to be a Muggle Helper if you should need one. Since she helped Maggie and Mollie when they were in Witch School, we believe she will be able to provide you with good advice and assistance. We provided her with a special shirt to denote her official status.

In addition, your older sister, Kallie, has also agreed to serve in this capacity. She has experience with magic and is a certain half-blood and perhaps full-blood. She was sorted to Slytherin and is familiar with many of the fundamentals of a proper wizarding education.

MAGIC WANDS

Because of your age, special student status, and the absence of a supervising teacher during your practice sessions, we will not be using real wands until we are certain you have developed a sufficient level of skill. Please be patient.
