Bunny Breakfast
April 12, 2017
Keith and I had quite an adventure yesterday with our two youngest grandchildren, Presley and Lilly. Granny made her special Easter Bunny Waffles so we would be fortified for the danger that awaited.
Everyone knows that Ugly Bugly the Witch wants to kill me and marry Keith May. At great personal peril, I have been trying unsuccessfully to befriend her for almost twenty years. However, she does have a weakness that I exploit: she loves burnt cookies! The night before the Bunny Breakfast, I baked peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. Luckily, the last batch was burnt black due to an unfortunate distraction.
The kids scampered around the yard leaving the cookies at the base of the trees where Ugly Bugly was sure to find them. She likes to turn into a crow and sit up in the tree to eat her stolen cookies.
The kids had to run super fast. Even though Ugly Bugly likes kids, when she is in her crow form and there are cookies involved, she can be very aggressive. We watched through the window, and sure enough, Ugly Bugly flew down and grabbed two little cookies in her beak and flew away.
A short time later, Presley spotted a sea gull flying near our backyard. She discerned it was Ugly Bugly’s witch sister named Ickity Lickity. She doesn’t like burnt cookies, but is addicted to pickles.
Presley put a dill pickle in her butterfly net which she fortuitously brought along to breakfast (in fact, her rolling suitcase was filled with all manner of handy paraphernalia much like Mary Poppins handbag).
The precaution of the net was required because Ickity Lickity is even more mercurial than Ugly Bugly when it comes to pickles. Lilly says, “She goes crazy!” You can see the fear in Presley's face! Lilly also took the opportunity to put out a few more burnt cookie temptations for my nemesis Ugly Bugly.
The finishing touch: the girls made signs advertising “Free Cookies and Free Pickles” to assure our best chance of positioning me for a truce with these witches. Time will tell. God knows I try!
Happily, there were no injuries from the gull due to very fast running. The pickle is unclaimed so far, but we amused ourselves with a great game of Mall Madness while we waited. We can feel Easter is almost here!
