STAR TREK
When Star Trek first hit the airwaves, Keith and I were each still living with our parents. I’m certain we have seen every episode several times, not to mention the movies and other spin-offs. In fact, when I was in labor with my first child Maggie, I managed to convince the nurses to let me watch that week’s new episode in the Father’s waiting room with Keith because there was no television in the labor room. I was 7cm when the episode ended. Star Trek helped usher our first child into this universe, so was a must-have in our collection.
Here we are with Vulcan ears at last! And today we have even more sophisticated communicators in our pockets called iPhones. I love my Uhura hair-do, and the whole bobble-head look to our bodies. My favorite part is the U.S.S. Enterprise and Santa’s sleigh soaring the skies. And I can’t forget to mention The Rat shining his Phaser up my skirt.
We owe a great debt to Gene Roddenberry for the decades of feeling the wonder and possibilities our universe holds for us. We lived long. We prospered. Who could ask for more?
