THE FIGHT
We always go to a coffee shop (this year McDonald’s) to sketch out our conceptual design for the card. After a couple of painful hours of brainstorming and arguments, we were ready to throw in the towel for the day. But, instead, we each got another mega-dose of caffeine and persevered. We encouraged ourselves by recounting how we bicker every single year and eventually come up with an idea we both like. That led to my mind landing on this year’s theme: “Twas the Fight Before Christmas.”
I was picturing a 1950’s Lucy & Desi type image. Keith with his arms folded and me wagging my finger. As you can see, Keith had other plans.
I also added something new to take things a step further. It’s a little story on the back to augment the image. Here it is:
Hey there! It’s Karate Christmas - full-contact, no-holds-barred, sugar-coated destruction. It’s the ultimate smackdown on Christmas Eve! Keith and Mary promise to deck the halls with bruises, brawling, and blood!
Even though Keith is ready to sweep the mat with Mary’s holiday spirit, she is slightly favored to win the match. She rumbles Rudolph-style! Both fighters have sugar plum dreams of riding that sleigh of victory. Their daughters say there’s no way to stop this insanity without cognitive assessments and competency hearings.
Stockings will be hung.
Fists will be swung.
Bodies will be flung.
But seriously, aside from all this combat excitement, crazy consumerism, and ho-ho-ho, we hope you have a wonderful holiday filled with the depth, meaning and love that is at its center.
Peace on Earth, Keith & Mary
