THE JOURNEY | LESSON 01

1. TEACHING BY MISS LADYBUG

Hello. My name is Miss Ladybug. I am a magical insect, over 2000 years old, and I love stories and poems. I am the founder of the Ladybug Literary Society and live in a castle in France. I am offering this course at the request of the kind people at Hogwarts. Only very special students like you have been admitted to this course because you are the future of mankind. The gifts inside you must be watered like a flower so they will bloom and make the world more beautiful. I have been offering this course for over a millenia and have seen many people and ladybugs go on in their lives to do great and wonderful things. You won’t have heard of many of them, because fame and riches are not important to them. You will understand why as the gifts inside you grow. I can’t wait to get started - so let’s begin!

2. MAGIC ART JOURNAL

The main purpose of your Magic Art Journal is to record important ideas, questions, and events on your journey. When I say this, many students ask, “What journey, Miss Ladybug?” It always makes me giggle a little. My answer is YOUR journey, Silly. The only journey that matters, the one that started on the day you were born. Can you guess now? It is the journey of your life! You are on a path to something wonderful. Look at the picture above. Imagine you are on that path on your way to something amazing.

The reason we keep a Magic Art Journal of our ideas, questions, and important events is to help our power grow. By reflecting on these things through writing and art, our power gets stronger and stronger. An Art Journal is one of the best and surest ways to make the magic within you shine forth. You were meant to shine. Be sure of that.

3. LET’S BEGIN

• Leave the first page of your journal empty for now.
• On the second page of your journal, write down something you’ve done of which you feel very proud.
• Now draw a picture of you doing that thing.
• Try to feel the feelings you felt when you started. It’s usually a little scary to start something.
• Try to feel the feelings you felt when you finished. I bet that was a nice feeling.

Do you know people who want to do something, but they are just too afraid. Their gifts never grow. Their power never grows. All their gifts are stuck inside them. The world never gets to hear their song, or eat their cupcake, or read their story. It is critically important to practice being brave.

4. LET’S CONTINUE

• On your third page, write today’s date in the lower right corner.
• At the top, write PRACTICE BEING BRAVE.
• Now write down five things you would like to do, but are maybe a little afraid to try.
• Let’s share our list of five things with each other.
• Now draw a picture of you being brave and doing one of them.

5. LET’S FINISH

You are a little smarter now, and a little braver too. Maybe you will try one of those scary things and tell us about it at our next class.
