Design Your Dream Home
One of my favorite things to do when I was a little girl was to draw floor plans for my dream house and plan how I would decorate it. I hoped my granddaughters would enjoy the experience so I shopped for some supplies and planned a little Dream Home Party.
I shopped the house first and found steel rulers, an assortment of pencils and markers, and kneaded erasers. I knew the erasers would be a big hit because they belong to my husband and are only used for “real art” instead of “kid art.” They are always serious and professional when they get to use one.

KNEADED ERASER LOVE
On the left is Lilly. As you can see, you can roll the eraser to make a little tip the size you need to blot your change. On the right is Presley demonstrating the most fun of all, kneading the eraser and making it stretchy.
Next, I shopped for some giant white poster board that already had a grid printed on it (although suspected it would mostly be ignored). My final purchase for inspiration and ideas, at a cost of just $2.00 each, were two identical books from the thrift store on decorating your home.

TRICKS OF THE TRADE
The kids got to make their first title blocks. That makes this officially “drafting.”
PARTIAL COMPLETION
Although we ran out of time, this is how the Dream Homes looked at the end of our party. There was still lots more work to do, so we decided to have a second party to complete the project. This is a little bit of the yard of Presley’s Dream Home. She has an otter house and otter pool. An owl building with separate rooms for barn owls, great horned owls, snowy owls, and a room for their friends the ducks and chickens. You can also see her stable and alligator pit. There is even an outdoor bar (I think that’s for you, Eli.) I’m not sure if the inspectors will allow the bar so close to an open alligator pit, but what happens at the Dream House stays at the Dream House. The object that looks like a striped snake at the bottom of the drawing is a circular staircase going up from the lower level.
Here is Lilly’s Dream Home. Can you tell I was Presley’s helper and Keith was Lilly’s? She doesn’t have her home labelled yet so I can’t tell you much about it. If I was speculating, I’d say the left side has a fire pit and a little corral holding three pigs. The pool has two diving boards and a lifeguard chair. I guess we will have to wait until after our second party to see the rest of the yards and houses.
