THE ART PALOOZA AUCTION
The Art Auction was started by our youngest grandson, Roland. He wanted money to buy some kind of virtual gaming merchandise and was told he’d have to earn it. Doing dishes or yard work did not inspire him, so he set about rummaging through his mother’s stash of his artwork she had lovingly saved over the years and invited all his family members to bid for it via his mother’s phone, posing as her. He got grounded. But shortly, his mom realized everyone still wanted to bid on his artwork. Yay! Roland got “ungrounded” and made a lot of loot. You can read Roland’s text below, followed by his mother’s response. Makes me laugh every time I read it.
Iteration #2 took hold quickly as the other grandchildren tore through their stash of drawings and paintings and joined in the mayhem. It was a selling spree. Adults went crazy outbidding each other, and parents had to pay exorbitant prices to keep the art that was hanging on the fridge the day before. But sweet deal for the kids.
And then Iteration #3 was a new experiment in an online group auction where the adults can sell their work too. We’ll see how it goes and watch for for future iterations. In the meantime, if you are a first-time exhibitor or bidder and want to learn how it works, we have a little tutorial for you. You can also view a history of past winning bids to get a flavor of the market. Just press the appropriate button and enter the password to learn more. You must be an approved exhibitor to view the Bid History.
