Chapter 4 Sample: First Love

My mother would tell people this story and wrote it in her little memory book. I was still in pre-school and went to speech therapy. Because of a hearing problem, I couldn’t distinguish certain sounds, for example between B’s and V’s - so I mispronounced a lot of words. It was the last day of class and the kids were supposed to bring a dish to pass to celebrate. My mom asked me what I would like her to make for me to take and I said, “My teacher just WOVES baked beans.”

It was a total lie because it was me that loved baked beans. My mom thought it was hilarious because I was graduating from Speech Class and “woving” baked beans. They were likely the first thing I ever really woved.
