009 - How To Correct Your Course
A tiny 1 degree error in heading means a plane will miss its destination by 1 mile for every 60 miles flown. Small errors are amplified by distance and time.
We all live much of our lives zoomed in to our present circumstances , focused on what shirt to wear, not being late for the game, remembering to pick up milk, drinking another beer.
If we're not careful, our zoomed in perspective can lead us astray, as we lose sight of our course and wind up somewhere we never intended to go. We need to zoom out to gain perspective and assess where we’re headed. And this is how we zoom out, by asking ourselves this question regularly to keep us on track:
If I repeated this action 100 times,
would my life be better or worse?
For high contrast, let’s look at doing a push-up or smoking a cigarette. Let the answer be brutally honest. How would the action compound in your life? Would it drive you towards your goals and vision? Or would it send you veering off course?
