May Day | #50 Breakfast Party

May 1, 2019

Keith and I began our 50th May Day celebration this morning with a pre-school May Day breakfast party where the littlest grand-girls made May Day cards and baskets for each other. First they made the cards.

MAY DAY CARDS

Inside Presley’s Card

Dear Lilly,

I love you more than my blanket. Also, you are my best friend. Love, Presley

Pictures of trophies because Presley is so talented and wins at everything. One says PJ on it. There are also drawings of Lilly and Presley being loving sisters.

MAY BASKETS

Next, they made each other May Baskets. First Presley got to pick 5 candies she thought Lilly would like, then Lilly did the same for Presley.

NO PEEKING!

MAY BASKET HIDING

Although the May Day tradition is to hang the May Basket from a door knob, ring the bell, and run aways to preserve your anonymity, that seemed a little silly in this case. Unfortunately, just giving each other the May Baskets lacked holiday drama. Just moments before they left for school, we agreed on a solution to our problem. We borrowed from the Easter tradition. The girls took turns hiding the basket they made in very hard places - so hard, in fact, that numerous generous hints were needed to find them and they ended up a wee bit late for school.

THE REMAINS OF MAY DAY

This afternoon, as I write this story, I have already enjoyed preparing the requisite May Baskets for each grandchild. They’ll be delivered later when school, workdays, track, and Girl Scouts are over. The only exception is my 10-year old grandson. Logistics were such that I was able to give him his basket at lunchtime.

Roland gasped with excitement at first, forgetting it was May Day. He then studied the label and I expected he would be thrilled.

“May Day! That’s disgusting,” he said.

“What kind of holiday has children pole dancing?”
