CHRISTMAS ELVES

For many years, this has been the card Keith likes the best. I adore every little bit of it. Even the lettering font delights me.

• What I would give for a pair of shoes like that!
• Vulcan ears ala Dr. Spock.
• The large jingle bell on the floor behind my chair and the smaller ones dangling from our hats were modeled after the bells we hang on Keith’s bronze sculptures at Christmas time.
• The coffee cup is from our winter kitchen dishes. I’d bet one out of five Americans own this set, so it may be familiar to you.
• I so love The Rat trying to erase Keith’s signature.
• A version of this card’s scene plays out in our lives everyday when we sit across from each other and he says something that makes me chuckle, smile, or blush. Keith is so fun to live with!
• And he’s so distracted flirting that we’re about to pith the brain of the doll inside the shipping crate!
• My bandaged fingers don’t seem that funny to me — too close to reality. I actually have a metal splint on one finger as I type this. Every month or two, I do some version of a revenge killing to a finger or two. I guess I should be grateful that now my signature injury is memorialized forever in this Christmas card.
